Shea Finds Lost Creek

Former 250 A GNCC Champion, Andy Shea, changed colors and rode into the winner’s circle at the eighth round of the Mid-South Cross Country Motorsports Championship. He ventured Lost Creek with Lady Luck on his side and maneuvered his first win at a Mid-South race.

He said, "I’m back and feeling like my old self again riding my KTM 250."

Off the start, Shea was dead last and took his time at getting the lead. On the starting line, he kicked his bike, and it lunged forward and died. He followed the six other AA riders into the woods. After that, he laid low trying to keep his hands warm. Once heated up, he was hot off the Mid-South trail, battling with Mid-South’s current number one guy in points, Dustin Gibson.

On the second lap, Plessinger Cycles / IMS / MSR / Smith / Silcoline supported Shea just came out of nowhere and took off. Gibson didn’t want him to get too far ahead, so he pushed through a couple of people, passing the front runners, Jeff Cregg and John Machino.

Shea and Gibson pulled the lead and battled back and forth until the last lap. Fortunately for Shea, Gibson forgot what sport he was in because he did a triple flip going over the bars, diving fifteen feet into the air and landing off of the course. Since this was no swim event, it hurt.

Without even knowing it, Shea moved into the lead while the Sarge’s Cycles / KTM / Enduro Engineering / Pro Action of Kentucky / Maxxis backed Gibson hobbled onto his bike and secured second, and OffRoad Group / Gas Gas / Leader / John Maschino slid into third place, riding a new Gas Gas.

"Thanks to the promoter, [Steve Gordan]", said Shea, "it was a good day. It was kind of cold, but the track was great. We got lucky that the ground wasn’t any more frozen than what it was. This was the coldest race I’ve ever raced."

Gibson said, "I had him, but it happens. It’s just not worth busting bones. I decided to slow it down after that."

Jake Young took the 250 B class by storm. He weathered the cold, snow, and ice and won his class, making an impressive ninth place in Overall.

Thirteenth in Overall went to Jared Whitaker. He manhandled his Suzuki into first place in 250 A class while Nathan Alering and Josh Scott battled for the nest two positions. Alering finished in second and Scott got third place.

Phillip Odell topped out 200B class, but it was a hard earned win. He started the race in third place and then went over a hay bale, hit neutral, and couldn’t go anywhere. After that, he got stuck in a mud hole. By the end of his second lap, he either shook off his troubles or everyone else had way worst problems because he cruised into first place with Jacob Patterson and Tyler Phillips following thereafter.

Congratulations were in order for the 300th rider through the Score Machine. Michael Brownlee won the American Patriot Getaways vacation.
