Trick or Treat for Allen

By DEBBIE ALLEN

Waverly, TN, Oct. 31

A brand new 11 miles wood’s track made a nice treat for the third round of the Mid-South Hare Scrambles Series. However, the Halloween day, Cross-Country Motorsports Championship also came equipped with plenty of tricks, but Team Green Kawasaki / Shift / Fox / Tire Balls / Pro Circuit backed P.A. Allen was quick to shake em because he rode his KX 250 to an Overall finish.

"My bike handled awesome," said Allen. "My Tire Balls worked great to give me good traction and on the last lap, I decided to push it and pulled away."

Off the start, the tricks were quick to stir trouble for all the riders. Problems started with a down pour at the beginning which led to deep ruts and slick hills but it soon became one fun race.

Allen said, "I took off dead last on the start because I had been sick all week, and I didn’t want to push it. I just kind of followed and hung in there, pretty much playing around trying to conserve my energy."

On the second lap, Allen pulled into the lead, and he and John Maschino freight trained for the next two laps. The others riders in the AA class suffered problems, giving some A riders a better chance at Overall. On the last lap, during the remaining six miles, Allen finally pulled away.

"P.A. was riding real good," said OffRoad Group / Gas Gas / Leader / Hebo sponsored Maschino, "so I mainly just hooked onto him, and he dragged me. That really helped because he led me right into second place."

The next rider in the tent was 250 A winner, Travis Green. The Moose / Alpinestar / GPR / Enduro Engineering sponsored Green encountered no problems until his third lap. He ran out of gas. Luckily, someone helped him out and one lap later, he made the podium.

Robert Patterson, Alan Westerfield, and Josh Scott were other riders in the A class who made the Top Ten in Overall. Patterson missed third place in Overall by twenty seconds. Westerfield won 4 Stroke A while Scott hammered down a second place finish in 250 A.

Patterson said, "Off the start, I pulled a holeshot, and Shad Ricketts was hounding me pretty hard. After that I just reached for the podium. If I could have only known third place was by twenty seconds, I think I could have charge a little harder."

Husquavarna / Maxxis / Smith Sport Optics / Oniel / Ironman Sprocket backed Blair Bersano finished in fifth place in Overall and came in third place in the AA class.

For the past several years, WER / Spectro / Extreme Motorsports supported George Poulos has traveled some 40,000 miles from Long Island, New York, to race the series. His persistence finally paid off because he took home his first Mid-South win in Senior C.

Geoffrey Vermilyea, 200B winner, said, "I love the mud, and I’d like to thank the Lord Jesus for keeping us safe out there."
