Kirchoff Snares Snake

Salem, KY, Dec 5

After leaving the fifth round of the Mid-South Cross-Country Motorsports Championship, some might say that their Youth division looked a little older. That’s because those boys and girls became men after racing the Copperhead trail. It was made for men only, and Mother Nature did not make it any easier from all of the rain that fell throughout the week. In spite, the Mid-South boys and girls toughed it out and bit the snake without a whimper.

Cole Kirchoff out maneuvered everyone in the Pee Wee 7-8 bracket. After a bad start, he took the lead when Austin Smith pulled out of the race due to bike troubles. Kirchoff made twenty-three laps and won his first race this season.

He said, "It was muddy and easy. Real easy actually. I popped a wheelie on the start and about lost it. I just had to let em all go, and I just had to catch up to them."

Tyler Bottoms won the Pee Wee 5-6 class. He said, "It was kind of hard because everybody jumped the green flag on the start. I had to come from fourth to first."

Jordan Ashburn, Spencer Cook, and Dustin Milam garnered the podium in the Junior A division. They mastered the tough course with no problems. Ashburn was in third place off of the start, and very quickly took the lead on the first turn. He finished in first place with an overwhelming lead. Cook and Milam followed while Adam Creaser and Shane Pena finished in fourth and fifth place.

"The track was slick, but it was fun and rocky," said Goat Goggles / Sinsalo supported Byarly. He enjoyed his second hare scramble and won the Junior B class. Off the start, he was in third or fourth place and then pushed himself into first place. After getting the lead, he never looked back and just kept going and going.

Zachary Nash had a bad start, but he weaved in and out of his troubles. He took the inside line to get around some and then buzzed by the others when they overshot a turn. He finished in second place in Junior B class while Michael Huddleston got third.

Huddleston said, "It was kind of slick, and I crashed once. I hit a root and bounced over and fell. There was this hill, and most everyone was crashing, going up it. But, I just picked this one line to go up it every time. It was pretty rocky."

Also riding strong in the Youth event was the Mini class. They trudged the mountain with all of their might. Making two laps in twenty minutes. Dylan Cox finished out front with

Dylan Majors and Brett Iott making all the right moves for second and third place.
