Mid-South Hare Scrambles Series Cross-Country Motorsports Championship

Round 1:  Lakeview Lodge

The Ashburn Advantage

White Plains, KY, Oct. 10

On the White Plains, Kentucky turf, the Mid-South Youth Series was off to a great start as Cox Promotions created two separate courses for the Cross-Country Motor-Sport Championship.  Ninety-five youth traveling from Indiana, Illinois, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee ventured the Pirelli Tire / Moose / Maxxis / American Patriot Getaways sponsored race in five different classes.

Off the start of the first division, Jordan Ashburn outshined them all.  The last four laps of the Junior A race encountered a tight battle between Shane Pena and Ashburn.  With Ashburn out front for most of the race, Pena picked up the pace and charged for the lead on the last lap, but Ashburn dug a little deeper for the win.  In the process, Ashburn earned the big bucks of $200.00 worth of Kawasaki contingency.  Riding Hondas, Pena followed in second place while Dylan Ritter finished the podium in third place.

The Junior B class had twenty-two racers.  Suzuki mounted Richard Brewer grabbed the holeshot with Zachary Nash taking an inside line directly behind him.  While Brewer dropped back and finished in eighth place, Nash held tight for the win.   On the first lap, he maneuvered the lead, made ten laps in forty-two minutes, and finished out front riding an RM Suzuki.    Shortly thereafter, Dusty Bowman followed in second while Tyler Carter took third.

“The bad thing about it was that I wrecked once,” said Bowman, “which put me behind just a little.” I was waiting for someone to get out of my way, and then someone came and rear-ended me.  That about knocked me down, but I finished in second.”

The Mini class was the largest youth event for the day.  It had twenty-seven riders with Dylan Cox leading them on his KTM.  Trenton Hayes took the lead on the first lap while Cox and Cody Shoettmer got second and Hayes moved into third place.

Meanwhile the Pee Wee classes entertained everyone.  Nearly twenty riders rode for twenty minutes on a mile track.  Riding hard in Pee Wee 7-8 group was Austin Smith, Cole Kirchoff, Trent Jones, Justin Lenard, and Dalton Riddle.  They made the top five and each of them made twenty laps.  Allisen Crain toughed it out in Pee Wee 5-6 bracket.  She loved the competition and led for two of the five laps raced.  She fell back and finished the race in third place.  Tyler Bottoms was the first rider to pass her.  He finished with an impressive first place finish and made fourteen laps in twenty minutes.  Zach Kirchoff followed and finished in second place.
