Summers Captures Hazzard Hill;
Allen Conquers Mid-South’s Mountain

Round 12: Hazzard Hill
Sweet victory came to Scott Summers and P.A. Allen as the final round of the Mid-South Championship Winter Hare Scrambles Series came to an end. Summers soared into another win this season while Mid-South’s number one plate, Allen, carved out the Overall Championship. Unlike other times, this time the national pro rider encountered a tight battle to the finish with Mid-South’s regional pro. Not far from the checkered flag, Summers maneuvered the lead and Team Green / Scott Goggles / Dunlop / Fox / Shift backed Allen savored a victory in second, making him the Champion for his fourth season in a row.
Parts Unlimited / Moose/ Smith / Alpine Star / FMF / Maxxis / Wiseco / Tire Balls / EK Chain / Cycra / Motion Pro / Sun Star / Malicon / Factory Connection / Honda Riders’ Club / Honda Oil & Chemicals/ Honda Genuine Break Pads supported Summers said, “I think my biggest problem is that I do my own mechanical work. Once again I had to jump start my bike and unfortunately I stalled it at the check. Of course there was no hill near the check, so I had to walk my bike up a hill to get it started. That’s when P.A. got by me. He rode really strong today.”
Summers was in the lead by the end of the first lap and pulled away from most of the twelve riders in the AA class, but it was hard to shake Allen. He freight trained behind Summers and then slowly drifted away. On the third lap, Allen swapped the lead, and then pulled the lead on Summers.
“From that point on, it was a battle right to the finish,” said Allen. “We went back and forth a couple of times each lap. On the last lap, we were going around a lapper, and we collided. I think his [Summers] foot peg went into my wheel because I got a flat and had to baby it to the finish.”
The last quarter mile of the track was off camber, making it impossible for Allen to keep up. Although he was down by fifty seconds, he finished the race in second place. Luck hovered over him, but it didn’t come quickly. After the checkered flag, he played the waiting game for his top contender, Dustin Gibson. If his Sarge’s Cycle teammate came through in third or fourth place, then Gibson would have been this season’s winner. Ten minutes later, Gibson rolled through the tent in fifth place.
Riding a KTM, Robert Patterson came through the score tent in third place. He passed Gibson near the motocross section and like Allen, Gibson also was apparently waiting for something. Gas, Gibson ran out, twice, and that ultimately ensured a battle from within as he watched Team Green Throttlehead’s backed Andy Shea make a pass for fourth place in overall. Once Gibson retrieved his goods, he finished the race, and garnished this season’s number two plate. Well done.
Patterson, owner of Sarge’s Cycles, said, “I think if I rode the series in the AA class next year, then I would have to get serious about my riding. I really don’t want to get serious. I want my boys to do that for me, and they’ve done a great job this year.” At this race, Patterson rode the AA class in order to boost his overall. It worked. He finished the season in seventh place in overall.
Gas Gas / OffRoad Group / Leader Goggles / LTR / MSR supported John Maschino got sixth place in overall at Hazzard Hill and completed this season as a podium finisher taking third place in overall.
Riding this season for Maxxis / Lowe Racing / Clarke / Motorex / Smith, Bersano won the AA class and finished the series in fourth place in overall while Cycle Shed / Michelin / Scott / Motor X / Thor supported John Robbins made it in the top five, taking fifth place in overall.
Good job and God bless everyone!
